The CURT 56420 uses the Santa Cruz's OEM rear connector and a circuit-protected powered converter to provide basic trailer-light functions without cutting factory wires.

Connector Location: The trailer connector is routed outside the vehicle and secured beside the hitch for ready access; it is not stored loose inside the cargo area.

1. Disconnecting Vehicle Power

The battery is isolated and the rear lighting functions are documented before the factory trailer-wiring connector is opened.

2. Opening the Driver-Side Rear Access Area

The protective underbody panel is removed as needed to reach the OEM socket near the rear of the vehicle.

3. Connecting the Plug-and-Play Harness

The dust cap is removed and the CURT connector is seated fully in the factory socket with its locking tab engaged.

4. Securing the Converter and 4-Flat

The converter is mounted on a clean protected surface and the 4-flat is routed neatly to the hitch.

5. Testing and Restoring the Vehicle

The harness is powered, every basic trailer-light function is tested, and the underbody panel is reinstalled.
