The 2019–2025 RDX receiver uses four factory weldnuts and requires no drilling. Access is created by lowering the spare tire and releasing the rear exhaust isolators, allowing the hitch to sit directly against both frame rails.
1. Lowering the Spare Tire
The factory lowering mechanism is used to move the spare out of the hitch’s mounting path. The tire, cable, and seating area are inspected before installation begins.
2. Supporting and Lowering the Rear Exhaust
The exhaust is supported before the two rearmost rubber isolators are released. This prevents the system from hanging on forward mounts and provides enough clearance to raise the receiver without scraping the exhaust or fascia.
3. Preparing the Frame Weldnuts
The four existing frame threads are cleaned with lubricant, compressed air, and a thread-safe brush as needed. Each bolt is test-started by hand so damaged or contaminated threads are identified before the hitch is overhead.
4. Installing and Torquing the Receiver
The hitch is raised into position and secured with four metric bolts and conical-toothed washers. Hardware is tightened evenly, then torqued to 60 lb-ft with a calibrated torque wrench.
5. Restoring the Exhaust and Spare Tire
The exhaust isolators and spare tire are returned to their original positions. We verify receiver centering, tire and exhaust clearance, safety-chain access, and hands-free liftgate operation before the vehicle is returned.
