2022–Present Acura MDX Hitch Installation
Receiver: 2-inch Class 3
Fitment: 2022–Present Acura MDX; 2021 is excluded
Published receiver rating: Up to 6,000 lb trailer / 900 lb tongue in weight-carrying use
Hands-free liftgate: The original sensor must be removed; retaining hands-free operation requires the separate factory relocation kit
Installation includes: Spare-tire access, weldnut inspection and cleaning, structural mounting, calibrated torque procedure, spare-tire clearance check, and final receiver alignment
The current MDX receiver mounts directly to six factory weldnuts in the rear frame rails. No drilling is required, but the spare tire must be lowered and the hands-free liftgate sensor requires special attention before the receiver is raised.
1. Confirming Fitment and Liftgate Equipment
We verify that the vehicle is a 2022-or-newer MDX and inspect the lower bumper for hands-free liftgate equipment. The factory sensor cannot remain in its original position with this receiver. If continued hands-free operation is desired, the vehicle-specific relocation kit is installed and positioned as directed by Acura.
2. Lowering the Spare Tire and Inspecting the Frame
The cargo-floor tools are used to lower the spare tire completely. Each of the six frame weldnuts is inspected and cleaned so the high-strength fasteners can be started by hand without cross-threading.
3. Raising and Aligning the Receiver
The hitch is supported against both frame rails while three bolts and conical-toothed washers are installed on each side. The washers are oriented toward the hitch plates and all six fasteners are brought in evenly so the receiver seats flat against the frame.
4. Applying Final Torque
The six structural bolts are tightened to 136 lb-ft using a calibrated torque wrench. The receiver is then checked for centered placement and even contact at both frame rails.
5. Restoring the Spare Tire and Checking Clearance
The spare tire is raised while its clearance to the receiver is observed. If necessary, it is guided slightly forward as it seats. We finish by checking the hitch, tire, fascia, exhaust, and relocated liftgate sensor before returning the vehicle.
