Honda Pilot (2022) Hitch Installation

The 2022 Honda Pilot uses six existing weldnuts in the rear frame rails for a straightforward, no-drill hitch installation. The spare tire is lowered, the weldnuts are inspected and cleaned as needed, and the receiver is raised and secured with high-grade M14 hardware. Every fastener is torqued to specification before the spare tire and surrounding area receive a final clearance and fitment check.
Vehicle Towing Capacity: 3,500 lbs (2WD) or up to 5,000 lbs (AWD, when properly equipped)
Hitch Rating: 6,000 lbs gross trailer weight / 900 lbs tongue weight
Installation Time: Up to 30 minutes

1. Lowering the Spare Tire for Access
The Pilot’s spare tire is lowered with the factory tools to open the rear mounting area. This provides safe working clearance beneath the vehicle and exposes the hitch mounting area.

2. Inspecting and Cleaning the Factory Weldnuts
The six existing weldnuts in the rear frame rails are inspected and cleaned as needed. Removing dirt and corrosion helps the M14 hardware start cleanly without damaging the factory threads.

3. Raising and Aligning the Receiver
The vehicle-specific receiver is raised into position and aligned with the factory weldnuts on both frame rails. The mounting bolts are started by hand so the hitch seats evenly and the threads remain protected.

4. Securing and Torquing the Hardware
Six high-grade M14 bolts and conical-toothed washers secure the hitch to the frame. Each fastener is tightened evenly and torqued to the hitch manufacturer’s specification for proper clamping force.

5. Restoring the Spare and Final Inspection
The spare tire is returned to position and checked for adequate clearance. We finish by verifying receiver alignment, mounting security, hardware seating, and the surrounding underbody.
