1. Preparing the Spare Tire and Rear Undercarriage
If the vehicle is equipped with a spare tire, it is lowered and removed to open the rear mounting area. The surrounding underbody components are inspected before installation begins.
2. Supporting and Lowering the Exhaust
The exhaust is supported before the rear hanger rods are released from their rubber isolators. This provides controlled working clearance while protecting the exhaust system from unnecessary strain.
3. Exposing the Factory Mounting Points
The rubber plugs are removed from the bottom of both frame rails to expose the factory weldnuts. Each mounting point is inspected so the hitch hardware can be installed cleanly.
4. Raising, Aligning, and Securing the Hitch
The passenger side of the receiver is guided over the exhaust before all six frame-rail mounting points are aligned. The supplied M12 hardware is installed evenly and torqued to CURT’s specification.
5. Clearance Adjustment and Reassembly
Exhaust-to-hitch clearance is checked carefully, with the rear hanger adjusted only if needed according to CURT’s procedure. The exhaust and spare tire are then restored, followed by a complete alignment and hardware inspection.
