BMW X5 (2020–Present) Stealth Hitch Installation

The Stealth Hitch gives the BMW X5 towing and accessory capability without leaving a receiver visible when it is not in use. Installation requires removing rear cargo trim, taillights, the bumper fascia, and the factory reinforcement beam so the hitch can mount to BMW’s structural attachment points. The removable latch block and receiver are then fitted and tested before the bumper, sensors, lighting, and interior panels are carefully reassembled.
Towing Capacity: 8,000 lbs with wiring
Tongue Weight: 800 lbs
Installation Time: Up to 3 hours

1. Protecting the Cargo Area and Opening Interior Access
The rear cargo floor, access panels, and necessary side trim are removed to reach the X5’s rear mounting and bumper fasteners. Interior surfaces are protected and the clips and hardware are organized for accurate reassembly.

2. Removing the Taillights and Rear Bumper
The taillights and lower bumper fasteners are removed before the rear fascia is carefully released from its retaining clips. Parking-sensor and lighting connectors are disconnected as needed, and the bumper cover is supported to prevent scratches or distortion.

3. Replacing the Factory Reinforcement Beam
The factory rear reinforcement beam is removed so the Stealth Hitch frame can use BMW’s structural attachment points. The hitch is positioned, centered, and tightened to the manufacturer’s specifications before the fascia is reinstalled.

4. Installing the Hidden Latch and Removable Receiver
The concealed latch block is fitted behind the bumper and checked with the removable receiver or towing attachment. Its lock, release handle, and engagement are tested so the attachment installs securely while the visible receiver can be removed when it is not needed.

5. Reassembly, Sensor Connections, and Final Inspection
All sensor and lighting connectors are restored before the bumper, taillights, cargo trim, and access panels are reinstalled. Panel gaps, lamp operation, mounting security, receiver clearance, and the detachable mechanism are inspected before the vehicle is returned.
