Honda Pilot (2023–Present) Hitch Installation

The 2023+ Honda Pilot includes factory weldnuts that make hitch installation efficient and structural. The spare tire is temporarily lowered, the hitch is raised and aligned by two installers, and high-grade M14 hardware is torqued to specification. The spare is returned to position and the installation is checked for alignment, mounting security, and tire clearance.

1. Lowering the Spare Tire for Access
The Pilot’s spare tire is lowered with the factory tools to open the rear mounting area. This creates the working clearance needed to position the receiver safely against the frame rails.

2. Raising the Hitch into Position
Because of the receiver’s size and weight, two installers raise and support it beneath the vehicle. The hitch is maneuvered directly to the Pilot’s structural mounting area without removing the bumper fascia or lowering the exhaust.

3. Aligning the Factory Weldnuts
The hitch mounting plates are aligned with Honda’s factory weldnuts in the frame. Each fastener is started carefully by hand so the threads remain clean and the receiver seats evenly.

4. Securing and Torquing the Hardware
High-grade M14 hardware and conical-toothed washers secure the hitch to the frame. The fasteners are tightened evenly and torqued to the hitch manufacturer’s specification for proper clamping force.

5. Restoring the Spare and Final Inspection
The spare tire is raised back into position and checked for adequate clearance. We finish by inspecting receiver alignment, mounting security, and the surrounding underbody before the vehicle is returned to service.
