Mazda CX-5 (2013–2025) Flat-4 Wiring Installation

Cargo-area access varies by model year, but each installation uses a vehicle-specific harness connected inline at both taillights without cutting the factory wiring. The 2013–2015 converter is circuit-protected and does not require a dedicated battery feed; 2016–2025 models use a powered converter with a fuse-protected battery connection. The harness is grounded, tested, and stored inside the cargo area before trim is reinstalled.
Installation Time: Up to 1.5 additional hours

1. Opening the Rear Cargo Area
Depending on model year, we remove the rear access covers and the necessary cargo-area flooring, storage trays, scuff panel, tie-downs, or side trim to reach the CX-5’s factory taillight connectors on both sides of the vehicle.

2. Plug-and-Play Taillight Connections
A vehicle-specific trailer-wiring harness is connected inline with the Mazda’s factory taillight wiring. Factory-style connectors allow the harness to be installed without cutting or splicing the original taillight circuits.

3. Hidden and Protected Harness Routing
The harness is routed behind the interior trim and across the cargo area to connect both taillights. Wiring is secured out of sight and kept away from moving components and cargo-storage spaces.

4. Converter Setup, Ground, and Model-Year Power
The converter is mounted in a protected interior location and connected to a secure ground. On 2013–2015 models, the circuit-protected converter operates without a dedicated battery feed. On 2016–2025 models, a powered converter uses a fuse-protected battery wire routed away from heat, pinch points, and moving components.

5. Circuit Testing and Cargo-Area Reassembly
We test running lights, brake lights, turn signals, and ground integrity before restoring every trim panel and storage component. The flat-4 connector stores inside the cargo area when not in use to help protect it from moisture, debris, and corrosion.
