Subaru Ascent (2019–Present) Hidden Hitch Installation

Rear view of a 2019 or newer Subaru Ascent with a professionally installed hidden trailer hitch

The Ascent hidden hitch replaces the factory rear bumper beam and sits behind the removable hitch-access panel. Rear fascia fasteners, splash guards, interior access panels, sensors, and the bumper beam are removed. The hitch is mounted to factory points, wiring is transferred and secured, and the bumper is restored and aligned.

1. Removing Lower Fascia and Wheel-Well Fasteners

Installation begins by removing the splash guards, wheel-well trim fasteners, lower fascia retainers, and other mounting hardware beneath the rear of the vehicle.

Each fastener and trim piece is retained and organized for correct reassembly.

2. Accessing the Hidden Fascia Hardware

Interior access panels near the taillights are removed to reach additional bumper-fascia hardware concealed behind the rear cargo trim.

This allows the fascia to be released without forcing or damaging its mounting points.

3. Removing the Rear Bumper Fascia

The rear bumper fascia is carefully separated from the Ascent while factory wiring and rear-bumper sensor connections are disconnected and protected.

The fascia is then placed safely aside to expose the factory bumper beam.

4. Removing the Factory Bumper Beam

The factory rear bumper beam is unbolted from the frame rails and removed so the hidden hitch can occupy the structural mounting location.

A small portion of the bumper mounting flange is reshaped as required so the hitch sits flush and the fascia can retain proper alignment.

5. Mounting the Hidden Hitch

The hitch is raised into position and secured directly to the Ascent’s factory mounting points using high-grade hardware.

All fasteners are tightened with calibrated torque tools to the manufacturer’s specifications, and factory wiring formerly attached to the bumper beam is transferred and secured to the hitch.

6. Factory-Style Reassembly and Inspection

The bumper fascia, splash guards, wheel-well trim, electrical connections, and retained fasteners are carefully reinstalled.

Final checks verify bumper alignment, secure mounting, protected wiring, and access through the removable factory hitch panel for a clean appearance.
