1. Opening the Rear Cargo Area
The rear hatch is opened and the cargo floor coverings, storage trays, and related fasteners are removed carefully.
This creates access to the driver-side rear cargo trim without disturbing the vehicle’s exterior lighting.

2. Accessing the Factory Wiring Connector
The driver-side rear trim panel is loosened so the Ascent’s factory trailer-wiring connector can be reached behind the interior paneling.
Using the built-in connection avoids routing a separate power wire through the exterior of the vehicle.

3. Installing the Plug-and-Play Harness
A vehicle-specific trailer-wiring harness is connected directly to the factory plug.
The factory-style connectors allow the system to be installed without cutting or splicing the Ascent’s original wiring.

4. Mounting the Converter and Ground
The powered converter module is mounted inside the cargo area near the factory connection, where it remains protected from weather and road debris.
The harness is grounded to a clean metal point on the vehicle body to support reliable lighting operation.

5. Testing Every Trailer-Light Circuit
The completed system is tested for running lights, brake lights, left and right turn signals, and ground-circuit integrity.
This confirms correct operation before the interior panels and storage components are reinstalled.

6. Protected 4-Flat Storage and Reassembly
The 4-flat connector is stored inside the rear cargo area when not in use, protecting it from moisture, road debris, and corrosion.
Cargo trays, floor coverings, trim panels, and fasteners are reinstalled, and the connector dust cover is fitted for protected storage.
