Toyota Grand Highlander (2024–Present) Trailer Wiring Installation

The Grand Highlander uses an interior factory connection behind the driver-side third-row trim plus an exterior jumper near the rear bumper. A vehicle-specific harness and converter are connected and grounded inside, while the exterior 4-flat is routed to the hitch. Lighting and ground functions are tested before the cup holder and trim are reinstalled.
Installation Time: Typically up to 45 additional minutes

1. Accessing the Third-Row Wiring Area
We fold the second-row seat forward and carefully remove the driver-side third-row cup holder and nearby trim components. This exposes the Grand Highlander’s interior factory wiring connector while keeping the removed panels and fasteners organized for clean reassembly.

2. Connecting the Vehicle-Specific Harness
The interior portion of the vehicle-specific trailer-wiring harness is connected to the factory connector behind the rear trim. The plug-in connection keeps the installation organized and avoids unnecessary alteration of the original wiring.

3. Mounting the Converter and Ground
The powered converter module is secured behind the interior trim and the harness is connected to an existing factory grounding point near the rear seat-belt area. This setup supports reliable trailer-light operation while helping protect the vehicle’s factory electrical system.

4. Exterior Jumper and Flat-4 Routing
Under the rear bumper, the exterior harness is plugged into the factory rear jumper connection. The flat-4 connector is then routed toward the center of the vehicle and secured near the hitch for convenient trailer hookup.

5. Testing and Interior Reassembly
We verify running lights, brake lights, left and right turn signals, and ground-circuit integrity. After the system passes testing, the cup holder, trim panels, and fasteners are carefully reinstalled for a clean finished appearance.
